The Gen5 family gets a new member with the release of the GLOCK 27 Gen5 in 40 S&W. Innovative Gen5 design changes have been added to this small, light, accurate and powerful pistol that is chosen by many US law enforcement agencies as their official backup weapon.

Utilizing Gen5 technology, this model comes with an nDLC finish, flared mag-well, proven GLOCK Marksman barrel (GMB) and ambidextrous slide stop lever.

Like the Gen4 model, the adjustable G27 Gen5's subcompact frame features a modular backstrap and beavertail system (MBS) and comes with a reversible magazine catch to accommodate both left- and right-handed operators. One of the fastest growing gun categories is the subcompact pistol. Concealed carry. Generally, a scaled down copy of a full-size semi-automatic handgun, subcompacts often have all the features of larger guns but in a different package. The Glock 27, chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson, is one such pistol.

The original Glock 17, a full-size nine-millimeter handgun developed for the Austrian Army, spawned an ecosystem of all-purpose handguns. Over the past four decades, Glock has introduced competition, full-size, compact and subcompact handguns with an emphasis on practicality, eschewing innovation and sticking to handguns and calibers that offer utility above all else. Coupled with sheer reliability, it's clear why Glock has captured a significant portion of the global police and military markets – including a commanding share of the law enforcement market across the United States.

The .40 Smith & Wesson caliber was developed as a result of the infamous 1986 Miami shootout in which two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents were killed and five wounded by two criminals armed with more powerful weapons. The FBI sought a more powerful pistol round, and after a brief stint with the 10 mm Norma pistol round, the .40 Smith & Wesson was finally certified as the standard pistol caliber.

Any handgun or caliber adopted by the FBI reflects strongly on the American law enforcement community. Today, the .40 Smith & Wesson has an impressive 70 percent market share among US law enforcement agencies. At the same time, the combination of reputation for reliability, accuracy and aggressive marketing campaigns made the Glock pistol very successful with police departments. As a result, the most popular Glock for law enforcement is the Glock 22, for all intents and purposes the original G17 chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson.

The Glock 22 is not a full size small pistol. Originally designed for military and police use, it was designed to be openly carried by soldiers and police, where carrying a pistol is a symbol of authority, it is a weapon. At eight inches long, five and a half inches high and 34 ounces with a full magazine, the Glock 22 would be difficult for an average-sized person to conceal.

Adoption of the Glock 22 by law enforcement forced the company to introduce a subcompact version. A smaller version of the pistol in the same caliber can be very useful for undercover officers as a standalone weapon or backup handgun at any time or place. A smaller version of an officer's or sheriff's duty pistol would be ideal, reducing the need for additional training and logistical support.

The Glock 27 is a pistol. The Glock 27 is a scaled-down version of the Glock 22 and uses the same ammunition as the larger pistol. Anyone trained to use a Glock 22—or any Glock for that matter—can be up to speed on a Glock 27 in minutes. The loading, chambering, firing and jam clearing procedures are the same as the takedown procedure.

The overall length of the Glock 27 is 6.5 inches, which is an inch and a half shorter than the Glock 22. It's only 4.17 inches tall, an inch shorter than a full-size pistol. He weighs half a pound less than his older brother. It is typically equipped with a nine-round, dual column magazine, as wide as the Glock 17 and Glock 22. Alternatively, if magazine ejection is not an issue, one can also use 10, 15, 16, 13, 14 and 22 round magazines.

The Glock 27 fulfills a valuable role, providing compact firepower to those who need it in a simple, highly reliable package. While it doesn't have the magazine capacity of a larger pistol, it can quietly go where other pistols can't. For those who need such a pistol in their department's choice of caliber, the Glock 27 fits the bill.

First Gun! Glock 27 Gen 5

, War Is Boring and The Daily Beast. In 2009 he co-founded the defense and security blog Japan Security Watch. I really like the .40S&W; It's really fiddly and torquey on the wrist, doesn't do anything ballistic-wise that a 9mm can't, and that's mainly a flaw in Glocks. I like pistols though. This is a great little package that is an incredible everyday carry gun, I had to get the G26 but it just couldn't pass me up. I'm probably going to buy a 9mm conversion barrel and pistol parts and some magazines in the near future. Anyway, here's a surprisingly positive review despite some hiccups.

So I'm officially a fan of sub-compact Glocks now; They are so comfortable that sometimes I forget I'm carrying them (not really) and I can easily get in and out of my vehicle without breaking my junk or guts. Checkable The pistol is mostly comfortable to hold, which is surprising given its small size and short barrel. I was able to shoot relatively well with almost occasional effort. It does a good job of what it is, and it's a small, highly concealable pistol that effectively engages targets at close range.

My primary complaint is that without the pinky grip mag extension, the pistol grip is comical and pretty ineffective as a practical weapon; Yeah sure, you can make it work, John Wick kills a dude with a pencil, but is that appropriate? no. Only contains one magazine with a Glock extension, what?! I went out and bought a Pierce grip mag extension for the second magazine, which gives me a plus 2 round count in the poor-ass 9 bullet standard capacity, and now I'm happy with my setup. The pistol's short grip makes it difficult to change magazines with speed and efficiency. However, fluency follows with some practice.

Glock G27 Review

Shooting the G27 was an enjoyable experience when it was faultless. OK, so it's about as defective as four shots out of 300 rounds, but that's still a lot compared to what I'd normally expect from a pistol. I will say that in my personal experience the .40S&W has never been pleasant during three one-handed shootings; The latter was during standard two-handed shooting but towards the end of my time at the range, so maybe my little birdie wrists were weakening and limping from the higher caliber rounds, who knows? For all the shooting I did with the pistol I was using a Salier and Bellot 180gr FMJ, which I had a lot of experience with in the past. Other than that, the G27 is shooting great! Acceptable groups at different distances, my best mind is not you, but anyway the man's minute. The standard OEM sights are fine for target acquisition, but I'm still planning on swapping them out for some tritium sights. I would definitely recommend this pistol for everyday carry, especially in summer or hot weather when applying light clothing. I think I will definitely change the gun to 9mm with the conversion barrel; .40S&W, 9mm conversion kits are readily available.
